Abstract

The Effect of Experiment Method toward Physics Procedural Understanding of Students of SMAN 21 Makassar. This study aimed to: (1) describe the physics procedural understanding of the students at SMAN 21 Makassar Academic Year 2013/2014 who taught by conventional teaching (2) describe the procedural understanding of the students at SMAN 21 Makassar Academic Year 2013/2014 who taught by experiment method (3) reveal a significant difference between student’s procedural understanding taught by experiment methods and taught by conventional method in SMAN 21Makassar Academic Year 2013/2014. The type of research is a quasi experiment using a Static Group Comparison Design. The population in this research were students class X SMAN 21 Makassar and the sample taked directly. Data processing results of this study using descriptive statistical analysis technique to describe student’s procedural understanding class X SMAN 21 Makassar and inferential statistical analysis technique to test the research hypothesis. Descriptive analysis showed that the average score of student’s procedural understanding in physics taught by conventional learning was 7.77 from 18 ,standard deviation was 2.78 and varians of 7.74. While the average score of student’s procedural understanding in physics taught by experiment’s method was 10.40 from 18, standard deviation was 2.97 and varians of 8.82 . Standard deviation and the varians of class experiment bigger than class control shown that conventional learning more effective than experiment method. Inferential statistical analysis technique consists of three tests , the normality test, homogeneity and hypothesis testing . Based on the test results of normality and homogeneity is obtained that the two samples are normally distributed and homogeneous, so to test the hypothesis using two tail t- test shown H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted . This indicates a significant difference of student’s procedural understanding as taught by experiment’s method and taught through conventional learning.
