Abstract

ABSTRACT VIVI RAHIM HENTIHU. 2014. The Effectiveness of Mathematics Learning by Using Cooperative Learning Model of NHT, STAD, and TGT Types to Class VII Students at SMP Ummul Mukminin Makassar (supervised by Djadir and Rahman) This research is a quasi experiment research which aims at examining: (1) the effectiveness of Mathematics learning by using cooperative learning model of NHT, STAD, and TGT types, (2) whether there is an enhancement and the difference of enhancement of learning outcome in Mathematics after learning by using cooperative learning model of NHT, STAD, and TGT types to class VII students at SMP Ummul Mukminin Makassar. The population of this research was all of class VII students at SMP Ummul Mukminin Makassar and the samples consisted of three classes, namely class VIIB, VIIC and VIID as the experiment classes which were chosen by simple random sampling technique. The data collection consisted of the students’ response toward the device and the learning. The data of students’ activity was analyzed by using mean analysis while the data of learning outcome was analyzed by descriptive and inferential analysis. The results of the research show that: (1) the application of cooperative learning model of NHT (Numbered Head Together) type in the material of repository to class VII students at SMP Ummul Mukminin Makassar is effective based on the aspect of: (a) the students’ learning outcome is in high category with the mean 76.75, classical completeness at 87.88%, the mean of gain 0.70. There is also significant enhancement in students’ ability from pretest to posttest with the level of significance 0,000, (b) the students’ activity in learning is in good category, and (c) the students’ response toward the device and the learning is in positive category; (2) the application of cooperative learning model of STAD (Student Team Achievement Division) type in the material of repository to class VII students at SMP Ummul Mukminin Makassar is effective based on the aspects of: (a) the students’ learning outcome is in high category with the mean 73.69, classical completeness at 86.11%, the mean of gain 0.68. There is also a significant enhancement in students’ ability from pretest to posttest with the level of significance 0,000, (b) the students’ activity in learning is in good category, and (c) the students’ response toward the device and the learning is in positive category; (3) the application of cooperative learning model of TGT (Team Game Tournament) type in the material of repository to class VII students at SMP Ummul Mukminin Makassar is effective based on the aspect of: (a) the students’ learning outcome is in high category with the mean 79.84, classical completeness at 93.75%, the mean of gain 0.77. There is also a significant enhancement in students’ ability from pretest to posttest with the level of significance 0,000, (b) the students’ activity in learning is in good category, and (c) the students’ response toward the device and the learning is in positive category. The results of the hypothesis test is on the level of significance α = 0.05 with the F-test indicates that the cooperative learning model of TGT type is more effective than type NHT and STAD in Mathematics learning in the material repository to class VII students at SMP Ummul Mukminin Makassar
