Abstract

The discussion of this research is learning local history has a strategic meaning in the formation of student character. History learning not only serves to provide knowledge as historical facts, but also aims to make students aware of their historical awareness. The purpose of this study is to provide students' understanding of the existence of democratic values in local historical material. The type of research used is qualitative research combined with historical research methods to uncover events chronologically, especially the local historical events of South Sulawesi which are democratic in nature. Data collection by observation, documentation and literature review. The results of the study show that the various values of democracy are implied in the learning material of local history, both in the form of messages from scholars and those implied in the local historical events of South Sulawesi.
