Abstract

Abstract: Makassar Language Courtesy in Class Discussions for the Makassar Bugis Art Class Students of the Makassar Class 2018 Class of Language and Literature Education Study Program. This study aims to analyze compliance and violations in class discussions of PBSD students class 2018. This study aims to analyze obedience and violations in class discussions of PBSD students class 2018. This research is a qualitative research using the theory of language politeness proposed by Leech. The data collection techniques used were observation techniques, note taking techniques and recording techniques. The data source used in this study was the recording of PBSD students in Makassar class which consisted of 32 students. The research data used were utterances expressed by PBSD students in Makassar class in class discussion activities for class 2018. The data analysis technique used in this study was the data analysis model developed by Miles and Huberman (2014). Data analysis includes three stages, namely the stage of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the speech in the class discussion activities of the Makassar Bugis art class of the PBSD Makassar class students of 2018, the researchers found a form of speech that is polite and impolite based on the principles of language politeness put forward by Leech. Data from adherence to the principle of politeness in Makassar can be found in the maxim of wisdom in the form of speech from the moderator who opens the discussion by conveying the title of the material and introducing the name of the group. The maxim of generosity is in the form of speech that answers questions and provides responses. and the maxim of appreciation in the form of giving appreciation (saying thank you). Meanwhile, the maxims of violations are found in the maxim of generosity in the form of speech that does not agree with the answer from the speaker and the maxims of appreciation in the form of demeaning others (saying the answer submitted is unreasonable).
