ABSTRACT JAFAR. 2014. The Influence of Hermeneutics Method toward The Ability Appreciating Poetry by the XII Grade Students of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar (supervised by Muhammad Rapi Tang and Sulastriningsih Djumingin). This is an experimental research which aims to describe the influence of hermeneutics method toward the ability appreciating poetry by the XII grade students of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar. The sample of experiment consisted of 69 students of Grade XII Science of SMA Negeri 9 Makassar which divided into two groups, those are 35 students from Class XII Science3 as an experimental group and 34 students from Class XII Science4 as a control group. The experimental group was taught by using hermeneutics method and the control group was taught by using structural method. The data were collected by using learning outcomes test, observation sheet, and learning implementation, as well as questionnaire of student's response. After the research, it is concluded that there is a significant influence from the use of hermeneutics method toward student's ability appreciating poetry. The experimental group's score is on the high category by mean score 84.97 and standard of deviation 10.21; meanwhile, the control group's score is on the fair category by mean score 74.58 and standard of deviation 9.72. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (HI) is accepted, since the value of tcount (3.592) is bigger than table (1.998).
