ABSTRACT NUR BIATI. The Correlation Between Motivation And English Achievement And Between Learning Strategies And English Achievement of The Second Year Students Of SMA 12 Makassar (Supervised by Haryanto and Muliati) This study was conducted to find out:1) the students’ motivation in learning English,2) the students’ learning strategy is mostly applied in learning English,3) the students’ English achievement,4) the correlation between students’ motivation and English achievement,5) the correlation between students’ learning strategies and English achievement. This study employed correlation research. The technique of taking sample was random sampling. The population of this research was 336 students of the second year students of SMA Negeri 12 Makassar which belong to nine classes. The sample of this research was 84 students. It took from 25 % of population, 336 x 25/100= 84 students. The research data were collected using questionnaires and test. The data were analyzed by using Likert scale and descriptive statistics through SPSS 17.0 version. The research result showed that the second year students of SMA 12 Makassar in academic year 2013/2014 have high motivation in learning English. This was proven by mean score of motivation 146.71. It was classified into high motivation categories ranges from 136 – 167 score. The students applied meta-cognitive strategy in learning with mean score 68.25. The students gain poor category in English achievement. This was proven by mean score of test 50.4 gain poor category in achievement categories ranges from 36-55 score .Based on the result of SPSS analysis about the correlation between motivation and English achievement there was correlation with r = 0.22 classified into low category range from 0.200-0.400. The result of SPSS analysis about the correlation between learning strategy and English achievement was positive and significant with r = 0.39 classified into low category range from 0.200-0.400. ABSTRAK NUR BIATI. Hubungan antara motivasi dan prestasi siswa dan hubungan antara strategi belajar dengan prestasi belajar siswa pada kelas 2 di SMA I2 Makassar. (Dibimbing oleh Haryanto dan Muliati) Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui:1) motivasi siswa dalam belajar bahasa inggris,2) strategy belajar siswa yang paling sering digunakan dalam belajar bahasa inggris,3) prestasi belajar siswa,4) hubungan antara motivasi dan prestasi belajar siswa,5) hubungan antara strategy belajar siswa dan prestasi siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian korelasi. Tehnik pengambilan sampe dengan cara acak. Populasi dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 336 siswa. Sampel pada penelitian ini sebanyak 84 siswa. Sampel tersebut diambil dari 336x25/100 = 84 siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan angket dan tes. Data tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan skala Likert kemudian melalui SPSS versi 17.0. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas dua di SMA I2 Makassar memiliki motivasi yang tinggi dalam belajar bahasa inggris. Hal tersebut dutujukkan dalam mean skor 146.71 yang dikategorikan dalam motivasi yang tinggi dalam skor 136 – 167. Siswa menggunakan meta-cognitive strategy dalam belajar bahasa inggris dengan nilai rata-rata 68.25. Siswa mempunyai nilai rata-rata 50.4 berada pada kategori kurang yaitu pada 36 – 55. berdasarkan pada hasil analisis SPSS tentang hubungani antara motivasi dan prestasi belajar siswa menunjukkan bahwa ada hubungan positive tapi dia lemah dengan r= 0.22 diklasifikasikan kedalam kategori rendah dalam skor 0.200 – 0.400. Hasil analisi SPSS tentang hubungan antara strategi belajar siswa dengan prestasi siswa dalam belajar bahasi inggris ditemukan bahwa ada hubungan positive dan signifikan dengan r = 0.39 diklasifikasikan kedalam kategori rendah dengan skor antara 0.200 – 0.400.
