Abstract

ABSTRACT The existence of a limited space requires the community to better understand the importance of the development of spatial planning to make a realization of a safe, comfortable, productive, and sustainable space. The study aims at analyzing the utilization of the existing land in Palopo city and the incompatibility of utilizing the existing land in Palopo city on the spatial plan in Palopo city. This study employed descriptive research method. Data were collected by conducting spatial data process, overlay, and presentation of the result. The results of the study reveal that the utilization of the existing land kin Palopo city consisted of nine types, namely settlements and places of activity, ponds, rivers, open land, rice fields, tegalan (fields), shrubs, mixed gardens, and forests and land use mismatches with the 2012-2032 RTRW are classified as low, amounting to 5,02% of the total area of Palopo City in the period of seven years from 2012-2019 or around 0,72% per year. If it is estimated that the non-conformity from 2012-2032 is 14,2%. While the mismatch of existing land use in 2019 with the revised 2012-2032 RTRW conducted in 2017 there is still a discrepancy of 0,77% of the total area. Potential impacts due to the incompatibility are it could trigger the conflict of utilizing the land, over support and over capacity of the land, and could give impact on the environment such as damage of decreasing quality of the natural environment, and impacting on the comfort and freshness of the city environment.
