Abstract

ABSTRACT Sitti Masyitah Meliyana R. 2011. Improving Mathematics Achievement on Solid Figure Subject at Student Grade VIIIB SMP Negeri 1 Bajeng Through Quantum Teaching Approach with Guided Discovery Method. Thesis, Mathematics Department, Mathematics and Science Faculty, Makassar State University. This research was classroom action research that was conducted within two cycles. The background in this research is mathematics student achievement is low, the students are not motivated and not enjoyable. So that, this research objectivest to improving mathematics achievement on solid figure subject through Quantum Teaching approach with Guided Discovery method. The research subjects were 44 grade VIIIB SMP Negeri 1 Bajeng. The improvement of learning quality includes mathematics achievement and quality of process. Data collection was conducted by using Achievement Test and Observation Sheet. The collected data analyzed by quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the action showed that: (1) at first cycle, the average of the students’ score obtained within the learning achievement test was 79,39 of an ideal score 100. 39 of 44 students or 88,64% were satisfied; (2) the second cycle, the average of the students’ score obtained through achievement test was 84,84 with standard deviation 10,486 in which 44 of 44 students or 100% satisfied the individual mastery which showed that the classical mastery was attained; (3) the quality of process covered three indicators: a) The activity of student during learning by using Quantum Teaching approach and guided discovery method, increased in every meeting of the cycle I to cycle II, b) the implementation of Quantum Teaching approach and guided discovery method is also increasing every meeting of the cycle I to cycle II, c) Responses of student during learning by using Quantum Teaching approach and guided discovery method. Every meeting the students provided positive respons of the cycle I to cycle II. Based on research, it can be concluded that mathematics achievement increase through Quantum Teaching approach with Guided Discovery method. Key word: Classroom Action Research, Quantum Teaching Approach, Guided Discovery method, Achievement.
