Abstract
ABSTRACT Available Transfer Capability (ATC), is the quantity of maximum available power that can be transfered between two nodes or two areas in the power sistem network, should be calculated accurately to guarantee reliability and security of power sistem if power transfer is really implemented. This paper presents a non iterative method of ATC calculations by using nonlinear power transfer distribution factor (nonlinear PTDF) and consider reactive power flows. Nonlinear PTDF is used for taking into account the changes of voltage magnitude and angle as the effect of power sistem loading in base case condition and during the power transfer. Reactive power flows is incorporated in determining the limit of maximum active power flows to replace line MVA rating. The previous method has used linear PTDF without incorporating reactive power flows, and then it’s developed with considerating reactive power flows but remained use PTDF linear. In this paper, the actual ATC values are also calculated with doing sequential AC load flow as the reference for computing error. The program simulation results indicate that the proposed calculation method is better than the two methods before (have the least mean error). Key words : ATC, actual ATC, linear PTDF, nonlinear PTDF
