Abstract

Abstract: This study aims at examining the effect of the use of pop up media and big book media on students’ reading interst and the difference in reading interest between students who use pop up media and students who use big book media. This study used an experimental research with a quantitative approach. The population in this study were all high classes in SD Negeri 100 Dare Bunga-Bunga’e. Determination of sample class used purposive sampling technique so it was obtained class V. Furthermore, the determination of experimental classes I and II used the random sampling method; thus, it was obtained class Va as the first experimental class and class Vb as the second experimental class. Data were obtained by employing questionnaire and observation sheet techniques, which were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics analyses. The result of the study reveal that (1) there is an effect of the use of pop up media on students’ reading interest, (2) there is an effect of the use of big book media on students’ reading interest, (3) there are differences in reading interest between students who were taught by using pop up media and students who were taught by using big book media. Based on the N-gain score, the reading interest of the first experimental class is 0.44 while the second experimental class is 0.324.
