ABSTRACT NURAZIZA ALIAH. 2014.The Implementation of Automatic Promotion System in English Teaching at SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminasa Kab. Gowa(supervised by Haryanto and Sukardi Weda). This present study aims at investigating the implementation of automatic promotion in English teaching at SMP Negeri 1 Sungguminasa Kab. Gowa in terms of planning the learning process, running the learning process, assessing the learning outcomes and the students’s English score after the implementation of automatic promotion system. Descriptive study with case study approach was applied in this research. The data were collected by employing document analysis, observation, and interview. The data analysis used in this research involved three things namely the data reduction, the data presentation/display and the conclusion drawing/verification. The result of the study revealed that(1)The implementation of automatic promotion in planning the learning process has not beenclearly implemented because there is no standard operating procedures about how to implement automatic promotion system in planning the learning process, (2) The implementation of automatic promotion system in running the learning process has not been implemented yet based on the characteristics of automatic promotion system.It is because the school is not well prepared to implement this system,it is not supported by good facilities and the teacher are indefferenttoward the implementation of this system, 3) The implementation of automatic promotion system in terms of assessment of learning outcomes is also not implemented as a whole. The implementation of automatic promotion system is just seen in terms of assessing the students for each basic competence and score processing pattern that use criterion-referenced test.It happened because most of the teacher do not understand about how to implement the automatic promotion system in assessing the students’ learning outcomes, (4) Implementation ofautomaticpromotion which isnotoptimal has an impact onthe student learning outcomes. After the implementation of the automatic promotion system, the students’ learning outcomesincreased butnot toolarge.It can been seen from the students’ national examination English score academic year 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 which just increased about 0.35. Penelitian inibertujuan untukmenyelidikipelaksanaansistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutandalam pengajaranbahasa Inggris diSMPNegeri 1SungguminasaKab. Gowadalam halperencanaanproses pembelajaran, pelaksanaanproses pembelajaran, penilaian hasil belajardan nilaibahasa Inggris siswasetelahpenerapan sistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutan. Pada penelitian ini diterapkan studi deskripsidenganpendekatan studi kasus. Data dikumpulkandengan menggunakananalisis dokumen, observasi, danwawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian meliputi; reduksi data, representasi data, dan penarikan kesimpulan/verifikasi. Hasilpenelitian menunjukkan bahwa(1) Sistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutanbelumterlaksana dengan jelas dalam hal perencanaanproses pembelajarankarena tidak adaprosedur operasi standartentang bagaimana menerapkansistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutandalam proses perencanaanpembelajaran, (2) Pelaksanaan sistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutandalam hal pelaksanaan proses pembelajaranbelumdilaksanakanberdasarkan padakarakteristiksistemkelas tuntas berkelanjutan. Hal ini karena sekolah tidak siap untuk menerapkan sistem ini, sekolah tidak didukung oleh sarana yang memadai dan guru yang acuh tak acuh terhadap penerapan sistem ini, (3) Pelaksanaan sistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutandalam halpenilaian hasil belajarjugatidak terimplementasisecara menyeluruh. Penerapan sistemsistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutanhanyaterdapat pada penilaiansiswa yang dilakukan disetiapkompetensidasardan polapengolahannilai yangmenggunakan penilaian acuan kriteria. Hal ini disebabkan karena sebagian besar guru tidak mengerti tentang cara menerapkan sistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutan dalam menilai hasil belajarsiswa (4) Pelaksanaan sistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutan yang tidak optimal berdampak pada hasilbelajar siswa. Setelahpenerapan sistem kelas tuntas berkelanjutan, hasil belajar meningkat tetapi tidak terlalu besar. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari nilai ujian nasional siswa tahun akademik 2012/2013 dan tahun akademik 2013/2014 yang hanya meningkat sekitar 0,35.
