Abstract

Abstract: This study is descriptive qualitative research, which aims at describing the errors in understanding Mathematics concept of students in three dimensions material based on learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) of students in grade XI at SMAN 1 East Luwu. The study employed test of understanding the concept, test of CRI to examine the level of student confidence in answering the questions, questionnaire of learning styles, and interview. The results of the study reveal that the visual subject had errors in understanding geometry concept of three dimensions due to visual perspective of the subject on the object. The descriptions of the errors are (l) intersecting lines are crossed lines, (2) two crossing lines can be made in one field, (3) there is only one line parallel to one field, (4) there is no example of a line go through a field in an upright prism, (5) two intersecting fields are always perpendicular, (6) the distance of the point to the line is the length of the hypotenuse formed from a point and line, and (7) there are two angles formed by two fields, namely angles of its fields. The auditory subject had errors in understanding geometry concept of three dimensions due to high belief of the subject on initial concept understanding which did not align with the correct concept, and understanding on daily language related to three dimension material. The descriptions of the errors are (l) intersecting lines are crossed lines, (2) there is no example of two crossing lines in upright prismatic space, (3) the distance of a point to a line is the result of the length of a line formed from the point to that line, (4) the diagonal of the cube base is the projection of the diagonal projection of the upright side of the cube, and (5) the angle between the two fields is the angle facing the two fields. The kinesthetic subject had errors in understanding geometry concept of three dimensions due to high belief of the subject on initial understanding of the concept and errors of subject's understanding in applying the comprehended concept correctly in practice into three dimension picture. The descriptions of the errors are (l) there is no example of a line go through a field in an upright prism, (2) the distance of a point to a line is the length of the hypotenuse formed from a point and line, (3) the projection of a line on a field is a line of lines and fields, (4) the angle between the two fields is the angle facing the two fields.
