Abstract
ABSTRAK ABD. RAJAB, Sikap mahasiswa terhadap penjelasan dosen di dalam kelas bahasa inggris Universitas Muhammadiyah MakassarMakassar (Pembimbing: H. A. Qashas Rahman and Syaripuddin Dollah) Objek penelitian ini: (i) Untuk mengetahui sikap siswa terhadap penjelasan dosen pada Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. (ii) Untuk mengetahui karakteristik penjelasan dosen yang baik di Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian Quan-Qual. Subjek dari penelitian ini sejumlah 38 mahasiswa di kelas F dan 2 dosen Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh melalui penggunaan angket, rekaman, dan kemudian dikalkulasikan dan ditranskrib untuk dianalisis. Angket yang didistribusikan ke 38 mahasiswa terdiri dari 20 pertanyaan close ended dan 1 pertanyaan open ended. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa menunjukkan sikap yang baik terhadap penjelasan dosen, dan hasil observasi dari 2 dosen menunjukkan bahwa dosen tersebut membawakan materi dengan penjelasan yang baik. Siswa menunjukkan sikap positif terhadap dosen dalam menyajikan materi di dalam kelas. Disamping itu, mereka merasa bahwa dosen yang baik yaitu dosen yang siap dengan baik dalam mengajar, antusias, simpati, dan ramah. Dosen menunjukkan karakteristik penjelasan yang baik dalam kelas bahasa Inggris di Universitas Muhammadiyah Makkassar. Karakteristik tersebut diidentifikasi dari persiapan dosen sebelum mengajar, pemberian contoh yang mudah sampai yang sulit, mengecek pemahaman mahasiswa, menjelaskan materi lebih dari sekali jika materi sulit dipahami, dan membuat kesimpulan diakhir pembelajaran. Qashas Rahman and Syaripuddin Dollah) The objectives of this research were: (i) to find out the students’ attitude toward lecturer’s explanation at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. (ii) to find out the good characteristics of lecturer’s explanation at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. This research employed descriptive Quan-Qual. The participants of this research were 38 students in F class and 2 Lecturers at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar.The result of the research were collected through the use of Questionnaires and audio-video camera, and then it was calculated and transcribed to be analyzed. The questionnaire that was distributed to the 38 students consists of 20 items close ended and 1 open ended question. The result showedthat the students have good attitudes toward lecturers’ explanation at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar (82), and the result from the observations of 2 lecturers showed that theyhave good explanation in presenting materials. The Students have positive attitude toward lecturer in presenting the material in the EFL classroom. Besides that, they perceive that teacher’s explanation showed by the lecturer are prepare, enthusiasm, summarizing, good explanation, sympathy, friendly. The lecturers have good characteristics of explanation in EFL classroom at University Muhammadiyah of Makassar. Those characteristics were identified from lecturers’ preparation before teaching, giving the example from simple to complicated, checking understanding of the students, explaining the material more than one if the material is difficult, and making conclusion at the end in teaching process.
