Abstract

The study employed qualitative research, which aimed analyzing relective thinking ablity of students in solving mathematical literacy problem based on students’ initial ability. The site of study was at SMPN 1 Pangkajene. The research subject were 2 students of grade VIII.A chosen from the result of initial ability. Data were collected using test and interview instrumen. Data validity employed triangulation technique. The results of research are (1) the subject with high initial ability in solving mathematics literacy problem passed through all reflective thinkingphase started from reacting phase by writing, stating, and finding the correlation from what is known and what is questioned. At this phase, the subject employed curiosity source; comparing phase by making solution strategy based on experience and other knowledge and explaning chosen strategy. At this stage the subject employed suggestion source; and contemplating phase by detecting the mistakes and correcting it if any, and making conclusion correctly, orderlinnes which based on curiosity and suggestion. It was seen indicators Polya’s problem solving started from understanding the problem, planning the solution, conducting the plan, and rechecking, (2) the subject with low initial ability in solving mathematical literacy problem only passed the reacting phase by writing, stating, and finding the correlation from what is known and what is questioned. At this phase the subject employed curiosity source, and also comparing phase in part c by explaning chosen.
