Abstract

The study is descriptive research with qualitative approach, which aims at describing the types of errors in solving Mathematics story quetions based on student’s learning styles. The learning style being studied is visual learning style , auditory learning style, and kinesthetic learning style; whereas, the Mathematics story questions is social arithmetic material. The research site was SMPN 2 Sabbangparu. The research subjects were 6 students of grade VIII. The research subjects represented three categories, namely visual learning style, auditory learning style, and kinesthetic learning style. The results of study reveal that the visual learning style subject did errors in concept, errors in using the data, errors in interpreting the language, errors in using technical terms, and errors in drawing conclusion. The auditory learning style subject did errors in using the data and errors in drawing conclusion. The kinesthetic learning style subject did errors in using the data, errors in using technical terms, and error in drawing conclusion. The results based on the field observation, the subject who made the most errors is the visual learning style subject. The most error made by the subject is errors in using the data. The factors which influence the students to make errors in social arithmetic story question are a) lack of understanding on prerequisite material and main material being studied, b) errors in interpreting the question into the formula being used to make Mathematics sentence, c) errors in interpreting or applying formula, d) not careful in reading the questions, and e) not careful and tends to be careless in doing count operation in questions. Keywords: student errors, social arithmetic story questions, learning style
