Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out: the implementation of phonics flashcards in teaching vocabulary and the learners’ responses to the use of Phonics flashcards during teaching of vocabulary at TK Bambini Makassar. This research employed descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this research were 1 teacher in implementing phonics flashcards and 16 young learners of TK B Bambini School. The data were collected through observation using video camera then analyzed using Miles & Huberman interactive model. Besides, recording the teacher activities during the teaching time in implementing the phonics, interview was also conducted to gain relevant data. The findings showed that there were eleven activities did by the teacher in implementing phonics through flashcards. They were recognizing letters and its sound, blending sound, identifying phonics sound, giving phonics worksheet, spelling words, singing songs, playing games, explaining word meaning, giving review, leading to read, and giving dictation. The learners responses toward the use of flashcards defined into verbal and non-verbal response in terms of learners’ development as classified by Dirjen Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini. They were moral and religious development, psychomotor development, cognitive development, language development, social and emotional development, and art development.
