Abstract

ABSTRACT The study aims at describing (1) students’ learning results in Mathematics before and after implementing GI (Group Investigation) learning using problem solving approach, (2) students’ activities during the implementation of cooperative learning of GI (Group Investigation) learning using problem solving approach, (3) students’ responses after implementing GI (Group Investigation) learning using problem solving approach. The type of this research is pre-experimental design with One Group Only Pretest-Postest design. The study employed one class taugh by applying cooperative learning of GI (Group Investigation) learning using problem solving approach. The population of the study were all students of class XI at MAN Binamu, consisted of seven classes with the total of 245 students; whereas, the sample of the study was one class chosen by employing cluster random sampling technique and obtained class XI Mia3 with the total of 35 students. Data where collected by employing (1) learning result test, (2) students’ activities observation sheet, and (3) students’ responses questionnaire. Descriptive analysis was employed to analyze learning result, students’ activities, and students’ responses. Inferential analysis was employed to test normality and t-test. The results of the study reveal that (1) the students’ learning result by employing cooperative learning of GI (Group Investigation) learning using problem solving approach has the mean score 79.14 which is in medium category meet the effectiveness standard of KKM 75, (2) the students’ activities by employing cooperative learning of GI (Group Investigation) learning using problem solving approach has the overall mean score from all the categories by 3.2 which is in fairly active category, and (3) the students’ responses by employing cooperative learning of GI (Group Investigation) learning using problem solving approach has the mean score 3.5 which is in positive category.
