Abstract
The study aims at examining the influence of guided inquiri learning model on critical thinking ability and learning outcomes in Biology subject of grade XI IPA students at SMAN 5 on Barru district. The design of this study was quasi-experiment with pretest posttest Control Grup Design. Samples of study were selected by employing random sampling technique and obtained grade XI IPA 1 as the experiment class and grade XI IPA 2 as the control class. The experiment class was given the guided inquiry learning model treatment; whereas, the control class was given conventional learning model. The instrument use in data gathering were critical thinking ability test (pretest and posttest) and learning result test (pretest and posttest). Data were analyzed by employing statistics independent sampel test of T-tes. The result of the study reveal that the mean score of post test of critical thinking ability of the experiment class was 77,77 and the control class was 69,59. Based on the result: (i) the independent sampel test of T-test, the p value was 0,000 meaning that sig (0,000 < 0,05) so (ii) guided inquiry learning model gave influence on critical thinking ability of students. The mean score of the posttest of learning outcomes of the experiment class was 92,03 and the control class was 84,25. Based on the result of independent sampel test of T-test, the p value was 0,004 meaning that sig (0,004<0,05) so (iii) guided inquiry learning model gave influence on learning outcomes in Biology. The conclusion of the study is the guided inquiry learning model gives influence on critical thinking ability and learning outcome.
