Abstract

ANALYSIS OF MATHEMATICAL WORD PROBLEMS SOLVING BASED ON MATHEMATICAL-LOGICAL INTELLIGENCE AND LINGUISTIC INTELLIGENCE ON TWELFTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 1 MAKASSAR Rahmawati, Abdul Rahman, Awi Dassa Mathematics Education Postgraduate Program Universitas Negeri Makassar, Indonesia e-mail: jafarrahmawati@gmail.com ABSTRACT This research was descriptive research with qualitative approach, which aimed at describing word problems solving of students based on mathematical-logicalintelligence and linguistic intelligence. The subjects of the study were four studentschosen based on test results of mathematical-logical intelligence and linguisticintelligence, namely: (1) high mathematical-logical intelligence and high linguistic intelligence (MTLT), (2) high mathematical-logical intelligence and low linguistic intelligence (MTLR), (3) low mathematical-logical intelligence and high linguistic intelligence (MRLT), and (4) low mathematical-logical intelligence and low linguistic intelligence (MRLR). The chosen subjects were given word problems test and interview. Then, the data obtained were analyzed based on the indicators of the word problems, namely: (1) classification, (2) symbol given, (3) count operation, and (4) interpretation. MTLT met the four indicators, namely of classification, symbol given, count operation, and interpretation. MTLR met indicator of classification, count operation, and interpretation but did not met the symbol given indicator. MRLT met two indicators, namely indicator of classification and symbol given but did not met the indicator of count operation and interpretation. MRLR only met indicator of classsification but did not met the three other indicators, namely indicator of symbol given, count operation, and interpretation. Keywords: Word problems, intelligence, mathematical-logical, linguistics
